Is It Time to Hit the Reset Button on Your Podcast?
After reaching 75 episodes, I’ve realized that even the most established podcasts can benefit from a reset. Whether you’re feeling burned out, noticing a decline in your listenership, or simply want to refresh your podcast’s direction, it might be time to take a step back and reassess. I’m excited to introduce my free Mini Podcast Audit Challenge, designed to help you evaluate every key aspect of your podcast—from the content you produce to how you market your show. This episode is your guide to knowing when and how to hit the reset button on your podcast.
When to Hit the Reset Button
Have you ever felt like your podcast has grown stagnant? It happens to the best of us. In this episode, I discuss how to recognize the signs that it’s time to hit the reset button. Whether it’s a loss of motivation, a decline in listenership, or just a gut feeling that your podcast isn’t serving your goals the way it used to, these are all indicators that a refresh might be in order. I share personal insights on how I’ve navigated these challenges and why it’s essential to periodically reassess your podcast to keep it aligned with your vision and audience.
The Mini Podcast Audit Challenge
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve created a free, three-day Mini Podcast Audit Challenge, specifically designed to help you audit and reset your podcast. Each day, you’ll receive a private podcast episode that guides you through essential steps to evaluate different aspects of your show. From your podcast goals and content to your marketing strategies, this challenge will help you identify what’s working, what’s not, and where you can make improvements. I also offer an upgrade option for those who want extended access to the challenge and additional resources.
Why You Should Audit Your Podcast
During this episode, I delve into the common reasons why podcasters, including myself, might need to conduct an audit. Are you feeling burned out on creating content or marketing your show? Have you noticed a drop in listenership, downloads, or subscriber growth? Or perhaps your podcast isn’t serving your goals the way you envisioned. These are all valid reasons to take a closer look at your podcast and consider making some changes. I discuss how a podcast audit can help you uncover the root causes of these issues and get you back on track.
Introducing Mic Check Society
I’m beyond excited to announce the upcoming launch of Mic Check Society, a brand-new educational community for podcasters. This community is something I’ve longed to create—a place where podcasters can come together to learn, collaborate, and grow. Forward slash audit. So as podcasters there will be times when we want to revisit or refresh our podcasts because they’ve grown stagnant. This could be due to a number of reasons. But that’s why I think it’s important to hit the reset button on your podcast with an audit. So first things first, I want to congratulate you on hosting a podcast long enough to have to hit that reset button. You’ve continued to show up for your audience. And now you’re at a place where you want to continue to serve them better. So the best approach to hitting this reset button is through that podcast audit. And a podcast audit will walk you through all of the major components of your show. From the essentials to the podcast content, to the production to the marketing and even a few big picture items. You want to make sure that with any audit, you’re continuing to serve your audience but also yourself as the host. Now when we come back from the short little break, we’ll review a few reasons why you may want to do an audit on your own podcast. Hey, y’all, I had to interrupt today’s episode because I have a really exciting projects launching soon.
So for years, I’ve longed for a place where my clients and other podcasters could come together to build a community while also gaining expert knowledge through trainings, hot seats, silent co working and collaboration with others. Well, it’s officially happening in just a few short weeks, might check society will be open for enrollment to the public. What’s my check society? Well, it’s an educational community for podcasters built by podcasters. That’s right, myself and my current clients are mapping out exactly what we want in this community. So make sure that you’re on the waitlist for Mac check society. So you’re the first to know when it launches, and you get access to our very limited founding member rate. Once those founding member seats are gone, the price is going up. So head to Mic check society.com or head to today’s show notes to get on the waitlist. All right. Now let’s get back to the ship. All right, now let’s walk through a few signs that it is time to audit your podcast. The first one is you’ve lost motivation on creating content for your show. And this is so easy to come by because creating content on a weekly basis especially is a lot of work. It is a lot of ideas and a lot of prep that goes into it.
And it’s easy to lose that motivation. But is there a reason why a podcast audit can tell you that it can walk you through the steps of figuring out what’s working in your show and what’s not. And oftentimes, that leads into understanding why you are burnt out on creating that content. Additionally, another reason is that you are burnout on creating content or even marketing the show. So there are a few reasons why you may not be marketing your show as well as you could have an an audit will help you uncover that as well. A third reason is that you’re not seeing the growth in your listenership or the downloads that you want to see or even subscribers, making sure that you are serving the audience or even getting in front of the right audience is another reason to consider auditing your podcast. Now the next thing is that your podcast isn’t serving your goal the way you thought it would. So you have a goal in mind for your podcast and you may may not actually be serving the goal with your podcast, because you’re not strategically planning for it. In the audits that we create here at Gaffin, creative, we want to revisit that we want to make sure that you’re still serving your podcast goal with the content that you’re putting out there. And that you are actually converting people into that.
So another thing to consider is, you’re not sure who you’re serving with your podcast, maybe this has changed, maybe your audience has grown or shifted, or maybe your business has shifted, and you’re now serving a new audience that isn’t in your podcast space anymore. These are all really important things to consider. Another is that you’ve pivoted away from the reasons you originally started your podcast. And this is a valid reason, our podcasts and our business and our lives, they all change over time, and we have to pivot with them. And when you are stagnant in the content that you’re creating, and you’re just going through the motions with your content, in your podcast, you can absolutely lose sight of why you started the show. And if it really even matters. So revisiting that, see how you can make your podcast work for where you are now, whether that’s in your business or your life. Or if you just want your podcast to serve a whole new perspective, there are so many other reasons for you to need to audit your podcast, or signs to look out for it to tell you that, hey, maybe it’s time to revisit these things in your podcast.
But where should you actually get started? Well this week, yes. Today, tomorrow and Thursday, I am hosting a free mini podcasts audit challenge. Each morning of the podcast challenge, you’ll get access to a challenge prompt that will walk you through some of the essentials in your podcast, and what you should consider of each. Make sure you upgrade to the challenge Pro, where you’ll get access to the challenge for one year. Plus, you’ll get access to the challenge workbook to work through each of those prompts. Come join us at Gaffin creative.com forward slash audit. Since today does kick off day one of the many podcasts audit challenge I want to review what we’ll actually be covering. So to start, we’ll review and redefine your podcast goal. And I’m sharing a few examples of those podcast goals how to determine if it needs to be revisited and how you’ll convert people to this goal. Or also revisiting your podcasts artwork, also known as your podcast cover to make sure that you’re standing out in the sea of podcasts that are out there.
