Why Your Podcast Is More Than Top-of-Funnel
Most podcasters assume their show belongs only at the very top of the funnel — the “awareness” stage — where it’s primarily about visibility and reach.
Yes, your podcast can absolutely do that. But if that’s all you’re using it for, you’re missing a huge opportunity. When done intentionally, your podcast can guide people through every stage of the funnel:
- Awareness — bringing in new listeners
- Nurture — building trust and deepening connection
- Conversion — prompting action and sales
The beauty of this approach is that you don’t have to triple your workload. Instead, you intentionally design episodes and supporting assets so that your podcast keeps working for you long after it goes live.
The Three Funnel Stages for Podcasters
1. Awareness
This is where new listeners discover you for the first time.
Think topics that:
- Address trending conversations in your industry
- Answer frequently searched questions (SEO-driven)
- Share fresh insights or quick wins
2. Nurture
This is where you warm up those new listeners and start building the “I trust you” factor.
Episodes in this stage often:
- Teach deeper concepts
- Share relatable stories or behind-the-scenes experiences
- Point listeners toward a free opt-in or resource
3. Conversion
This is the stage most podcasters completely overlook — yet it’s where your episodes can have the highest return on investment.
Conversion episodes:
- Highlight your offers directly
- Share case studies or client results
- Answer objections your ideal client might have before buying
The Tools That Make This Possible
- Flodesk — for opt-ins, automated welcome sequences, and weekly nurture emails.
- ThriveCart & WooCommerce — for selling courses, memberships, and digital downloads.
- HoneyBook — for onboarding and managing service-based clients.
These aren’t just “nice to have” platforms. They are the systems that allow you to capture interest when it’s fresh, nurture people while you sleep, and create a consistent client experience without reinventing the wheel each time.
Repurposing Content for Maximum Impact
If your podcast’s lifespan ends the week it airs, you’re doing it wrong.
Some of my best-performing episodes are months — even years — old. They’re still driving sales because I’ve woven them into my funnel intentionally.
Here’s how:
- Include older episodes in your email welcome sequence
- Link to them in blog posts and opt-ins
- Share them regularly on social media and Pinterest
- Reference them in sales conversations
Remember: if an episode is relevant and valuable, it’s evergreen. It should be promoted like it’s brand new.
Putting It All Together: A Holistic Funnel
When all your marketing channels talk to each other, you stop relying on one-time bursts of attention.
- Social media drives people to your podcast
- Your podcast drives people to your email list
- Your email list drives people to your offers
- Your offers deliver transformation and feed back into your content
It’s a cycle — and when you add automation, it becomes a cycle that works without you constantly hovering over it.
