Your podcast is launched! All your hard work has paid off and you’ve released your few episodes. So, what’s next? When planning your show, one major decision to make is how often you will release your episodes.
Your release schedule is totally up to you! This schedule may range from daily, once a week, twice a week, once a month, or any other variation. One thing you’ll want to remember is consistency is key. Pick a schedule and stick to it!
There are a few things that will help you determine the best release schedule for your show.
How long does it take for you to create a quality episode?
This is a crucial factor to consider when deciding how often to release episodes. In order to best serve your audience, you only want to deliver great content that you are proud to release. How quickly you can write, record, and edit an episode will determine how often you can release episodes. Give yourself a timeframe that allows you to put out great content!
You may choose to batch record your content, which means you’ll record multiple episodes and edit them at the same time. This gives you the option to work ahead, you can create a release schedule in which the episode releases are closer together.
What’s your style of content?
The type of content you’re releasing will affect how often you decide to post. A laid-back, conversational show may release more frequently while an hour-long production may release only a few times a month.
Your topic also comes into play here. If your show covers recent events or current news, you might need to release one to two times a week just to stay relevant. A topic that is less time-constrained gives you more choice in this decision.
What is your audience expecting of you?
Are you wanting to produce content that is an experience that your listeners take part in for an hour a few times a month? Or, are you wanting to produce episodes that your audience listens to on their daily commute? Podcast listeners are more likely to stick around when you deliver consistently on what they are looking for. So, serve your audience what they are expecting!
Whichever timeframe you determine to release your episodes, it is so important that you remain consistent. Maintaining your schedule will enhance your engagement and build a stronger connection with your audience.
